The Curse of the Very Good Day

Learning Seeds Featured at Pyramid Model Annual Summit

Good days can be deceiving! When everything seems fine, we often overlook early signs of disengagement that can lead to big challenges.

On March 25th, Learning Seeds education team leaders Erica Key and Terri Foster were featured at the Pyramid Model Annual Summit, “From Exclusion to Inclusion”, hosted by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and the Pyramid Model Consortium. About 200 Boston-area early childhood leaders and practitioners came to learn and discuss strategies to improve inclusion among groups of early learners.

In the event’s keynote address, Erica discussed how solutions to daily challenges can be found before meltdowns and moments of disruption begin. Through the lens of the Learning Seeds Milestones of Engagement, Erica introduced the teachable moments that offer opportunities to prevent problems before they occur.

In the afternoon, Terri’s “Reverse the Curse of the Very Good Day” workshop provided practical strategies to solve common problems such as children on the edge of the play, grabbing, not sharing, flitting from activity to activity and inflexibility in pretend play.  The hands-on session allowed each participant to consider the daily challenges in their own learning environment and develop plans to spot and solve them before they become disruptive.  Terri introduced Habit Helpers as a strategy to leverage routine to make positive engagement habitual.

Finally, the Learning Seeds team set up a “Set Your Intention” selfie booth to encourage participants to remember, celebrate, and share their key takeaways from the event.

With fresh insights and practical tools in hand, educators left empowered to spot the quiet cues that turn ‘very good days’ into truly great ones—for every child.
