Leveraging Technology to Extend Expertise
A Step Forward for Learning Seeds’ AI Software Project
This winter, through collaboration with the MIT Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center (PKG Center), Learning Seeds enlisted the skills of Social Impact Fellow Charis Ching to advance our AI software research and development initiative.
Charis constructed an AI agent that analyzes transcripts of Learning Seeds specialists coaching individual learners toward fuller engagement with their environment and their peers. It provides best practice recommendations for guidance and intervention that come directly from the work of the Learning Seeds education team.
Developed to automate — and ultimately scale — the cadence our specialists carry out in their day-to-day practice, the agent provides a valuable new tool for the Learning Seeds Engagement Data Model, the system by which we make recorded in-person practice useful and valuable to individual children and ultimately to our field.
The “Create Vignettes from Transcripts” agent is trained on thousands of transcripts from years of sessions with individual children, together with our education team’s own analyses, observations, categorizations, and practice notes for these sessions. Built within the Agent.ai platform, this beta iteration identifies key moments that highlight a child's struggles and motivations, places them within Learning Seeds engagement framework, and offers relevant strategies to support growth.
Leveraging technology to capture and scale the expertise of early childhood educators has been fundamental to Learning Seeds’ mission from the beginning.
Charis’ AI tool builds upon years of work by the Learning Seeds education and technology teams – with critical contributions from social impact fellows like Charis – to collect behavioral data, record expert responses, and create software that makes best practice available to educators and caring adults everywhere.
