It's normal to worry if a child seems left out or disconnected from play. Learning Seeds materials help you observe, scaffold and support your child's entry into play. Read on to learn about Learning Seeds unique strategies including:
• Teach "initiation" last! First, make a "connection" for your child, so he/she can enjoy the play.
• Follow the motivation! Notice when you are thinking about what your child SHOULD want. This won't motivate new behavior.
• Shift your focus to what your child DOES want, and let us help you find the most pro-social habits to turn current motivations into social experiences and connections.
The role of the Enlightened Shadow is to sensitively block your child’s avoidance behavior and allow him/her to connect with surrounding peer activities. Children may flee interactions if they feel overwhelmed, so examine how your child's avoidance is meeting a need. Then help your child discover that these needs can be better met by being in proximity with the group as you manage the sensory, autonomy, boundary setting/emotional regulation and habits.
Here is one of our most popular publications for parents. We hope you'll find helpful answers to the question, “What can I do next time we are at the playground?”
